More Than Just Fishing
Escape to true tranquility
Leave the world behind while you lounge on Tranquility Bay Resort’s private beach or swim in the calm, clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. Practice the art of “doing nothing” or spend your days exploring the natural beauty that surrounds the resort.
Tranquility Bay Resort is on the northern end of Ambergris Caye, an island running parallel to the Belize Barrier Reef. The seclusion and proximity to the largest coral reef system in the Western Hemisphere makes our resort an exceptional place to explore above and beneath the water. Dive, snorkel, and of course fish, until your heart’s content. And if you have energy for more, we can arrange excursions to the Mayan Ruins (Xunantunich, Altun Ha and Lamanai), the Belize Zoo, cave tubing, and zip‐lining.
Family Fun
Relax and enjoy the beach right outside your door where you and your children can swim the clear caribbean waters, play in the sand or just soak up the plentiful sunshine on our serene and tranquil beach.Swings to play on, kayaks to paddle and the reef to snorkel are right at your fingertips. You can book a beachside or in room massage to relax and recharge. Just speak with one of our staff to make arrangements.
Explore with local excursions
Sun drenched and fringed with coconut palms, Ambergris Caye is the largest of Belize’s over 200 Cayes. Only a stones throw from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, the narrow Bacalar Chica channel dug by the ancient Maya separates it. Known as “La Isla Bonita”, the island is filled with Caribbean charm. San Pedro, the main town, is a delightful blend of the Caribbean with a touch of Mexico and a dash of old Key West. Sandy streets are lined with small hotels, boutiques, dive stores and full menu of places to eat and drink.
A very popular trip is diving or snorkeling at Hol Chan National Marine Preserve and Shark-Ray Alley, followed by lunch on the picturesque Island Caye Caulker. There are also boat trips to the famous Blue Hole, (rated one of the world’s top 10 dive sites), Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye or the Turneffe Islands. A visit to the Mayan sites of Altun Ha or Lamanai, by boat is a great adventure.
There are also many wonderful things to do on the mainland of Belize. Tranquility Bay Resort can arrange and coordinate these activities including visits to Mayan ruins including Xunantunich, Caracol, Altun Ha and Lamanai (over 900 sites total), river rafting, zip lining, cave exploring and bird watching. Sites well worth seeing include the Mountain Pine Ridge country, the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve, the Baboon Sanctuary and the Belize Zoo. There is always something spectacular available to do at or near Tranquility Bay. Let the adventure begin.

Inside the reef the water is calm with no waves so you can discover the underwater world in a controlled and safe manner. You may even find yourself accompanied by one of the area’s friendly residents – sea turtles, dolphins, rays, and manatees frequent the waters around PADI Open Water Certification courses take you out to explore the wonders of the aquatic world.
Divers, ages 10 and up, can get scuba diving certification. No prior experience with scuba diving is required. PADI Continuing Education will hone your skills, build your confidence, and keep you safe. We recommend completing PADI eLearning before coming to the resort. Doing the classroom portion of your training online means you can spend your vacation time in the water.
Snorkel The belize barrier reef
Snorkeling in the warm, calm, clear water inside the reef is spectacular! On any one outing you will see dozens and dozens of different varieties of fish, all in their technicolor glory. The best part about it, you only have to walk out of your beachfront cabana door to snorkel the Belize Barrier Reef.
There is a small amount of snorkeling gear available for rental so it is preferred if you have your gear to bring them along to make sure you have the right size. Rental goes pretty quickly, and we find that the perfect size is normally the hardest with limited stock.
